Unveiling the Reality Behind the Viral 'Revolutionary' Medical Imaging Video

Jul 18, 2023Jul 18, 2023

Medical innovations are helping all human beings to live healthy and longer lives. With the development of technology, social media are flooded with superior innovations. However, some such posts mislead the public and create unnecessary discussions in medical communities. This is our investigation of such social media posts about modern imagery systems.

Social media post

A video post circulating on Facebook has garnered significant attention, claiming that conventional medical imaging methods such as CT scans, MRIs, and X-rays will become obsolete due to new digital technology that allows doctors to visualise the human body in real time on a screen. The video’s caption asserts, ‘CT Scan, MRI, X-ray will go off. New digital technology has arrived. Now doctors can see the body live on screen. Watch this video; the future is now.’

The post and video have been widely shared across various social media platforms, gaining traction despite the accuracy of the claims needing to be made more explicit. In light of these circumstances, Fact Crescendo undertook an investigative effort to verify the authenticity of the video’s claims.

Explanation

In our investigative effort, Fact Crescendo conducted a comprehensive analysis of the viral video, employing a screenshot reverse image search to ascertain its origins. The results of our investigation led us to a video shared back in March 2018 on the YouTube channel of NJ.com.

This video featured a virtual dissection table in use at a school located in New Jersey, specifically at the Biomedical Science Academy within North Hunterdon High School. The footage showcased a technology known as the Anatomage table, a virtual dissecting table designed for educational purposes in human anatomy classes. Notably, the technology presented in this video bore a striking resemblance to the one depicted in the viral clip that has been circulating on social media platforms.

The description accompanying the NJ.com YouTube video provided valuable context. The Anatomage table enables students to explore various systems of the human body, including those that are not easily discernible using traditional anatomical models. This technology undoubtedly enhances the educational experience by offering intricate 3-D models of anatomical structures.

In our investigation, we employed the term ‘Anatomage table’ in a YouTube search, which yielded many videos further showcasing the application and utilisation of the Anatomage table.

Our investigation reveals that the sensational claims propagated by the viral video, suggesting a revolutionary replacement for established medical imaging procedures like C.T Scans, MRIs, and X-rays, lack credibility. Instead, the technology in question serves as a valuable educational tool, supplementing traditional methods of teaching human anatomy.

Anotomage Table

The Anatomage Table is the sole fully-segmented natural human 3D anatomy system globally. Users of this technology can visualize anatomy with precision akin to an actual fresh cadaver. Through this innovative system, individual structures within the body are meticulously reconstructed in a precise 3D format, delivering an unparalleled and immersive virtual dissection experience.

Conclusion

Fact Crescendo has thoroughly investigated the viral video claiming the imminent obsolescence of conventional medical imaging methods through a new digital technology. Our investigation has unearthed the true nature of the technology depicted in the video, leading to a conclusive refutation of the sensational claims it propagated. Instead of heralding a revolutionary replacement for established procedures like CT Scans, MRIs, and X-rays, the video showcased the Anatomage table—a powerful educational tool designed to augment traditional methods of teaching human anatomy.

As Fact Crescendo, we reiterate the importance of critically assessing information before accepting and sharing it. Our investigation highlights the significance of discerning between sensational claims and substantiated facts. While technology like the Anatomage Table has remarkable potential within educational contexts, it still must replace the nuanced capabilities of established medical imaging techniques. In a world where misinformation can spread rapidly through social media, our commitment remains to provide accurate insights and dispel myths, fostering a more informed and educated online community.
